Simply Amazing Sea Salt!
Sea Salt interests me because it is a powerfully healing Earth element usually not given the recognition it is due for its numerous benefits. Since I was born and grew up near the ocean, I've noticed its remarkably fast healing ability on wounds and other skin conditions. Once developing eczema after having children, I couldn’t help but notice dramatic improvements in my skin after exposure to salty seawater. The benefit of sea salt can be seen and felt immediately with lasting effects. It has an anti-inflammatory nature which reduces itching and swelling, both irritants to eczema sufferers. The rich mineral content of seawater also aids in healing which partly explains why 14,000 known uses for salt or “halite” exist, making it the most popular mineral utilized on the planet. The crystal composition of ocean salt is so complex that laboratories worldwide have been unsuccessful in recreating it from its 80+ basic chemical elements. Sun-dried ocean beds on and in the earth make salt an inexhaustible resource. Good thing because it is vital to all life and preservation. Hippocrates-Father of Medicine (460 B.C.), noted the amazing healing properties of seawater on the battered hands of fishermen, as well as its anti-inflammatory action on respiratory symptoms by inhaling steam, for treating skin lesions and digestive troubles. Its natural anti-histamine properties work great on clearing sinuses, congestion and mucus from the lungs for those with Asthma or Cystic Fibrosis. With the amazing ability to also reduce the risk of infection and pain, the benefits of sea salt are seemingly endless. In China and Europe it was once used as currency which is where the word "salary" comes from; "sal" meaning salt in Latin. They also realized that whether rich or poor, people craved it. This is why Chinese rulers tried to control and tax salt. Such taxes helped finance European and Asian empires inspiring a boisterous black market, smuggling rings, riots and revolutions. Wars have been fought over salt and huge taxes levied upon it making it valued as gold; and where salt was scarce, it was traded ounce for ounce as gold. Some places even minted coins from it which functioned as basic currency. Jesus said, “Salt is good…therefore, have salt in yourselves and live at peace, one with another.” Salt is an essence of life so simple and essential to living yet taken for granted due to its constant abundance. It protects and purifies allowing optimal health. One lesser known benefit of sea salt is its ability to lower blood pressure, contrary to popular belief. Researchers have discovered that salt reduction isn’t necessary because our protective kidneys eliminate excess sodium regularly. Recently, studies have shown that low salt diets attributed to four times more heart attacks than normal sodium dieters! It is certain that a salt-free diet will actually lead to hypertension, insanity and eventually even death. All of us experience the benefit of sea salt whether understood or not like: metabolism enhancement, body fluid and sleep stabilizing, optimal digestion, blood volume controlling, PH balancing, muscle and nerve functioning; and libido maintenance to name a few. It is a natural preservative used through the millennia as a therapeutic agent in luxurious spas, baths, glows, rubs, polishes and exfoliating of dead skin cells. It also aids in stress relief and stimulates circulation. Another vital medical benefit of Sea Salt is in the treatment of diabetes. Proper salt intake balances blood sugar levels, prevents gout, spider veins, muscle cramping and swelling. Its a natural diuretic and prevents constipation. Eyes and skin are both protected from infectious germs with the anti-bacterial effect of salt. Human blood and seawater are similar enough in chemistry that blood transfusions were performed by Navy doctors during WWII by using it when blood was unavailable. Many lives were saved with this method and hospitals still use saline solutions because they work so well. Fascinating, isn't it? Another benefit of sea salt is its overall immune system strengthening abilities and disease prevention. When salt is craved, the body needs minerals found only in real salt. Refinement makes nutrient absorption impaired and calcium is depleted; opposite of the benefits of sea salt derived naturally. Real sea salt doesn’t calcify in the body but dissolves damaging calcium deposits. Lack of salt has been linked to birth defects, organ failure, diseases, decay, premature aging, osteoporosis and untimely death. The benefit of sea salt versus table salt is overwhelming. Natural salt is moist, clumpy and often gray in color due to high mineral content. Bleached and processed salt devoid of minerals or “table salt” is 99.9% NaCl (sodium-chloride) which is as chemically clean as heroin or white sugar. This refinement creates a white poison having nothing in common with its original crystal state. When industrial development began, the “cleaning” of salt reduced it to just two chemical elements: sodium and chloride, stripping 90 others away. Since the 1940’s, major salt producing companies began drying salt in 1200 degree kilns, altering its structure and lessening the benefit of sea salt. Refined salt has many additives, bleaching agents, dextrose, sugar and aluminum silicate, which poisons and kills fish when in a solution of this type of “saltwater”. Nothing should be added or removed to salt coming from non-polluted seawater. When salt won’t dissolve in water, it is refined and will end up being stored in the body's organs as toxins. In order for our physiological and biological processes to function correctly we need plenty of sodium. Our bodies will even reserve extra salt when stressed or infected as an inborn response to the vital threat of salt depletion. We constantly have to replenish our bodies with the benefit of sea salt which is an essential part of our blood, sweat, and tears. The trace minerals found in it are so necessary to health that finding a pure source is extremely important. There are innumerable benefits of sea salt as further research will uncover. |
